Aaron Rodgers saw the writing on the wall.
The Packers quarterback reportedly played his final snap with Green Bay, but this may not be new news to members of the Packers organization.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Rodgers felt he would not be returning to the Packers for another run in 2021, and he had told pending Packers freelance agents that he was unlikely to be eligible for another season in the Green Bay.
“What I’ve been told from multiple sources is that Aaron Rodgers was basically telling the Packers’ potential freelance agent, ‘Before you make decisions, I probably won’t be here.’ To the point where he told them, until the start of last season. That was in the wake – the months after the team designed Jordan Love. “
TIMELINE: Where did the Rodgers-Packers relationship go wrong?
While several players ended up signing renewals with the team – lineman David Bakhtiari who trailed Aaron Jones – Garafolo reports that the players felt that Rodgers might be upset that the team was still designing love, and not a big one, in his words Found threat.
Garafolo also says the players knew about the supposedly preferred landing destinations for Rodgers in 2020.
The gap between Rodgers and the Packers has widened seemingly beyond repair. According to recent reports, Rodgers is refusing to return to Green Bay unless they fire GM Brian Gutekunst.
Regardless of whether Rodgers is through with the Packers or not, it’s impressive that the team and quarterback kept this all under wraps for only nine months.
