UFC star Conor McGregor is in serious talks against boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, but the fight is not over, McGregor manager Audie Attar told ESPN on Friday.

McGregor said on Twitter Friday that he is "next boxing Manny Pacquiao in the Middle East".

The McGregor-Pacquiao boxing match would take place in late December or early January, said Attar, who represents both fighters. The Middle East is one of the few places where the battle is being fought, he added.

In 2017, the UFC, Mayweather Promotions, Showtime and McGregor Sports & Entertainment sponsored a McGregor boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

A specific weight has not been set for this proposed fight, according to Attar, but he said he was confident the fight would take place in the months ahead.

After the Pacquiao fight, Attar said McGregor should return to the UFC in 2021.

McGregor, who also expressed his frustration with his lack of activity this year, has not fought since his 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone in January.
