Writer / actor Donald Glover, who is also a rapper at times and is nicknamed Childish Gambino, has signed a massive long-term deal with Amazon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Atlanta creator has canceled its contract with Disney’s own FX for a multi-year, eight-digit contract with Amazon. In related news, it looks like President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s eldest daughter are working for their Netflix competitor, as Malia Obama will reportedly be on the Glover writing team for an upcoming project he’s working on.
Fans of his FX show Atlanta needn’t worry as the award-winning comedy has already been renewed for seasons three and four. Production for the upcoming season will start next month. No filming was done due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the two upcoming seasons will reportedly be shot in a row to get the popular comedy back on the air as soon as possible.
Fans of the show have not seen any new episodes since the series was last aired in May 2018.
It was recently reported on IGN that under the new contract there is already a series for Amazon Studios that is in the middle of production. The title Hive is rumored to be about a Beyoncé-like public figure, and Obama may have been recruited to the writer’s room. She already has a couple of TV shows on her resume, including Girls on HBO and Extant on CBS.
There was also a recent announcement of a remake of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It will star Glover and Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who repeat the roles of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt while both executive produce the film. Waller-Bridge posted the “preview” on her Instagram account.
“We introduce the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith ????
“Series Co created with Francesca Sloane New Regency + @amazonstudios from the heads of PWB X @childishgambino ✨ Coming to your screens in 2022 ????”
