College football schedule: What bowl games are on today? Times, TV channels for New Year's Eve

It's the last day of the year, but there's still a lot of football to play as the college football season is just inches from the end.

Four games underline the action on New Year's Eve, including a pair of bowls with ranked teams. No. 24 Tulsa plays Mississippi State in the Armed Forces Bowl at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, followed by No. 22 San Jose State playing Ball State at the Arizona Bowl at Arizona Stadium, Tucson.

The other two games don't have ranked teams, but they do contain three Power 5 programs. West Virginia plays Army at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis before the Arkansas and TCU night ends in the Texas Bowl, held at the Texans' NRG Stadium.

Tulsa versus Mississippi State

Normally 3 wins wouldn't get a team into a bowl game, but Mike Leach's Mississippi State team found its way into the postseason with 3-7. Will Rodgers was an effective quarterback for the Bulldogs after killing K.J. Costello, but the Tulsa pass guard in one of the better units in the country only allows 194.0 yards per game. Tulsa's only two losses this year went to ranked teams.

West Virginia versus Army

West Virginia was originally supposed to face Tennessee while a nine-win team was forced to sit at home. Luckily for the Black Knights, the Volunteers had COVID issues and West Virginia needed an opponent. The climbers finished the game 5-4 and have a top 10 pass save, but that's likely a moot point as the army rarely throws the ball.

San Jose State versus Ball State

No. 22 San Jose State (7-0) had quite a turnaround under coach Brent Brennan. The Spartans were a combined 8-29 for their first three seasons before ending undefeated with a Mountain West title that year. Ball State (6-1) had an equally impressive result, claiming six straight wins to end the season, including a 38-28 loss to Buffalo in the MAC Championship game.

TCU versus Arkansas

Arkansas (3-7) is his third head coach since the Razorbacks last won a bowl game in 2016, but Sam Pittman has significantly exceeded expectations in his inaugural season. Former Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks had an equally impressive season after being replaced by Kyle Trask at the Gators. Franks has completed an Arkansas record of 68.5 percent of the passes. TCU (6-4) had high and low seasons against Texas, but also lost three points against West Virginia.
