One of the best parts of . Disrupt is the Startup Battlefield competition, and one of the most important parts of Startup Battlefield is our line-up of experts – they are the ones who are trying to impress the founders. Once the demos and presentations are done, the judges need to think quickly and ask questions about each startup. And then of course they choose the winner, who gets to take home $ 100,000 and the Disrupt Cup.
This year, GV partner Terri Burns will join us as one of our jurors at our second virtual startup, Battlefield. Burns joined the firm (formerly known as Google Ventures) as a Principal in 2017 and was promoted to Partner last year. This made her the first black partner at GV and also her youngest partner.
Burns previously worked as a developer evangelist and front-end engineer at Venmo and as an associate product manager at Twitter. At GV, she invested in the high school social app HAGS and the social audio app Locker Room.
In an interview about her role last fall, Burns said she was interested in supporting Gen Z founders and pointed to HAGS as a good example of a product “built by and for Gen Z” .
“This generation is coming to an age where they are building and creating and at the forefront of the cultural landscape,” she said. “To find founders, builders, engineers and designers who are part of this generation and build for their own people, I think it’s just a new wave of entrepreneurship and builders coming into technology and Silicon Valley.”
Disrupt 2021 runs from September 21-23 and will be 100% virtual this year. Get your pass for less than $ 100 for the rest of the . community when you secure your seat before the next month. Applications for the start in the Startup Battlefield are also possible until May 13th.
