NBA All-Star skills participants: Full lineups for Slam Dunk Contest, 3-point Contest & more in 2021

The NBA will again host a Slam Dunk Contest, 3 Point Contest, and Skills Challenge during their All-Star hiatus, but those events have a distinctly different feel this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of having a full weekend of all-star celebrations, the league crammed it all into one night. On Sunday, the best players from across the NBA will go to the ground at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The skill competitions and the all-star game take place within a few hours.

NBA ALL-STAR 2021: Complete list of starters, reserves

TNT’s All-Star Show starts at 5:00 p.m. (CET), followed by the Skills Challenge and the 3-Point Contest. The slam dunk contest serves as halftime entertainment for those watching the all-star game.

Which players are going to steal the show? Here is a breakdown of the main events and participants.

Participants in the 2021 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

The Slam Dunk Contest consists of three players who compete against each other in two rounds. Each player tries two dunks each in the first round, then the two goal scorers advance to the final round. The remaining players then each dunk to determine a winner. First round dunks are rated by five judges on a scale of 6 to 10, allowing for a minimum score of 30 and a maximum score of 50. In the final round, the judges select a winner by raising a card with the darker’s name on it.

Five past #ATTSlamDunk champions will serve as judges, under the direction of Famer Dominique Wilkins at Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall. Wilkins (1985 and 1990 Masters) is accompanied by Dee Brown (1991), Jason Richardson (2002 and 2003), Josh Smith (2005) and Spud Webb (1986). #NBAAllStar

The six participants in the 3-point competition shoot at the typical five locations along the arch with four racks with four regular balls (one point) and one money ball (two points), as well as a special rack with five money balls. Players can choose their favorite spots for the money ball shelves.

Two “MTN DEW Zones” sit 6 feet behind the 3-point line. Each zone contains a green ball with three points. By adding these zones, the NBA has increased the time limit from 60 seconds to 70 seconds and the maximum score from 34 to 40 points.

The competition is separated by two rounds, with the three players with the highest number of points from the first round reaching the final. The player with the highest score in the final round will be crowned the winner.
