Another night, another playoff spot, as we officially welcome the St. Louis Blues to the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Blues earned one point for their loss of overtime to the Vegas Golden Knights, and with the Los Angeles Kings regular loss to the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis is now fourth in the West Division. The following should be noted in the 14-game table on Saturday:

  • There aren’t many other teams tied to specific posts right now, but one of them is the Carolina Hurricanes, who won the Central Division crown. You play against the Nashville Predators, who can secure a place in the playoffs with a win. Elsewhere at headquarters, it’s the most recent engagement in the Battle of Florida as the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers continue to battle for the seed. You are currently tied by 75 table points but the lightning bolt keeps the regulation winning tiebreaker. You can watch this game streamed on ESPN + tonight.

  • In the North Division, the Montreal Canadiens can get closer to the playoff ticket with a win in their competition against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The idle Calgary Flames are hoping for a regular win for the Maple Leafs, while the Vancouver Canucks will have to win their game tonight against the Edmonton Oilers to keep their hopes alive.

  • While the Blues ranked # 4, the Golden Knights, Avalanche, and Minnesota Wild are still in the mix for the top seed. Vegas and St. Louis will face each other again tonight in a possible playoff preview (streaming on ESPN +), while the Avs the Kings and the Wild take on the Anaheim Ducks.

  • The East Division’s four playoff teams have won longer than anyone – but there is the slightest clarity about the order in which they will end. The Pittsburgh Penguins are two points ahead of the Washington Capitals overall and are playing their final regular season against the Buffalo Sabers this afternoon. Pittsburgh and the Caps are even in regular wins, and the Pins won the season series, 6-2. The capitals will get a rematch against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday after losing Friday night. The Boston Bruins are two points behind Washington and four points behind Pittsburgh but have three more games to go, the first of which is against the New York Rangers at 3 p.m. ET today. After all, the New York Islanders need a lot of help moving up from fourth to third place, but part of the process would be a win in their game against the New Jersey Devils tonight.

After the regular season ends, it’s time to watch all the playoff races – along with the teams battling for position in the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery.

Race for number 1

The NHL uses a draft lottery to determine the order at the top of the first round, so the team that finishes last is not guaranteed choice # 1. New for 2021: A team can move up a maximum of 10 places if it wins the lottery. Therefore, only 11 teams are eligible for the # 1 selection draw. You can find detailed information on the process here.
