Rams vs. Buccaneers rating, outcomes: LA protection shuts down Tom Brady within the second half

Rams vs. Buccaneers score, results: LA defense shuts down Tom Brady in the second half

The Rams couldn't have asked for much more from their defense in a 27:24 win over the Buccaneers in the second half on Monday night.

LA kept Tom Brady and the Bucs to just 251 yards for the game and 113 yards on attack in the second half. Brady was picked up on the track twice, including a last chance march in the last two minutes of regulation.

The Rams' offense wasn't spectacular, but Jared Goff did enough to outperform Brady. Goff finished 39 of 51 passes (76.5 percent) for 376 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. Cooper Kupp was his number one target, taking 11 catches for 145 yards.

Much of LA's production came in the first half when Goff threw TDs at Robert Woods and Van Jefferson. The Rams scored a field goal at the end of half thanks to a great job from Goff and the offensive of rushing the field after a 35 yard reception by Woods and tipping the ball within 1 second. That put LA in the lead 17-14 at halftime.

Brady only completed 26 of 48 (54.2 percent) for 216 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in the second half.

Even so, Brady and the Bucs stood a chance thanks to the Tampa Bay defense. Jason Pierre-Paul scored a screen pass in the first round of the second half and scored a field goal from Ryan Succop to end the game between 17-17. And Jordan Whitehead came up with another interception that resulted in a touchdown drive that ended with a 13 yard pass from Brady to Chris Godwin to re-tie him at 24-24.

However, the Goff and the Rams offensive came through when it mattered, bringing the ball within reach of the field goal from Matt Gay, who took the final 27-24 lead from 40 yards away.

The LA Defense spawned another big game to end the game when rookie safety Jordan Fuller launched his second interception of the night, allowing the Rams to run out of time and finish the game on a Johnny Hekker punt.

The Rams (7-3) are now first connected to the Seahawks in NFC West, while the Buccaneers (7-4) fall 1.5 games behind the Saints in NFC South.

10:04 p.m. – MISSED FIELD DESTINATION, RAMS. Gay pushes it 44 yards to the right; Buccaneers take over at their 26 yard line, leaving 8:25 in the third quarter.

9:55 p.m. – FIELD TARGET, BUCCANEERS. Tampa Bay goes three and four, but JPP's big game still scores Ryan Succop a 38 yard field goal to finish the game between 17-17, with 12:41 left in the third quarter.

9:50 pm – – We're back for the second half; Rams get the opening start.

9:35 p.m. – FIELD TARGET, RAMS. Matt Gay connects from 38 meters away. A damn good job for the Rams to tip the ball for 1 second on the clock after 35 meters from Goff to Woods. HALF: Ram 17, privateer 14.
