Ten fat polar bears filmed raiding a stalled Russian garbage truck

Published on October 20, 2020

From the Siberian Times today (October 20th) is a story with few facts but a fabulous video of six fat adults and four fat boys besieging a stuck open garbage truck in the Russian Arctic. It may have been shot on Novaya Zemlya but that has not been confirmed.

Of course, Novaya Zemlya previously had issues with litter accustomed bears, most famously a widespread incident in 2019 perversely attributed to climate change.

There were two families that I could see in the video: one woman with two boys of the year and another with two year old boys. All were in excellent condition, as were the other four adults. Novaya Zemlya is between Barents and Kara Seas (see below) if the incident actually happened here:

From the story of the Siberian Times:

The video from an unknown location in the Russian Arctic was shared by a driver who happened to be on the same street as the broken garbage truck. The truck's military license plate suggests it could have been shot in the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, but the Siberian Times couldn't confirm it. Four large bears are filmed one after the other climbing in the truck while the cubs watch.

Other adult bears are running towards it.
