Mahomes is a top State Farm commercial star alongside Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Sun's point guard Chris Paul. This is the list of the future Hall of Famers.
What Mahomes has in his favor is the natural state of coolness he seems to present on screen, although this may only be due to the knowledge that he is one of the best quarterbacks the world has ever seen. QBs always seem cool – just ask any popular high school kid.
The work against Mahomes is the formula for State Farm commercials. Before Mahomes came along, Paul and Rodgers were in the ads, which often messed things up just for "Jake of the State Farm" to show up and fix things.
There's nothing special about Mahomes 'commercials that couldn't be done with another top athlete, except maybe the recent haircut sketch which was pretty funny along with Mahomes' heavy use of ketchup in the steakhouse sketch.
For the most part, however, with minor tweaks (and vice versa), Mahomes could be swapped for Rodgers commercials and they wouldn't feel so different. This is not really Mahomes' fault. At least he has that funny superstar smile.

Mayfield's largest business volume was in Progressive Insurance. He has completed two seasons worth 2019 and 2020 and they could continue through 2021. Maybe they were upset when the Browns and Mayfield disappointed in 2019, but the commercials seem to have taken a step up in 2020.
The requirement for all Mayfield commercials is that its "home" is FirstEnergy Stadium, the home of the Cleveland Browns. This leads to funny moments like Mayfield trying to cover up all the seats when it rains, Mayfield freaking out when maintenance people come because "company" arrives, and Mayfield has problems with the stadium's metal detectors.
Mayfield is also joined by his teammate and offensive lineman Jedrick Wills in some commercials showing good camaraderie in Cleveland. Mayfield's wife, Emily Wilkinson Mayfield, also appears.
In Mayfield's various commercials, he seems very much himself. While it is difficult to know exactly what Mayfield is like in his actual home, it feels more like seeing more of Mayfield, the human, and less of Mayfield, the quarterback, in his commercials.
Since the whole premise of the spots is that Mayfield is a recognizable face, it adds to the fun that Progressive doesn't show off Mayfield as a high-end quarterback, but simply paints him as a normal guy who worries about normal household chores, just in a large football stadium.
